Manchester hosts the Sainsbury's 2015 School Games

After a successful event in 2014, Manchester is proud to once again host the Sainsbury's 2015 School Games. As a city that lives and breathes sport, Manchester continues to strengthen its impressive reputation for attracting major international sports championships.

In 2012, the City was named 5th in the Ultimate Sports City List, and No.1 city with a population of under one million. In 2013 Manchester hosted several major sports events, including the Men's World Squash Championship, the Rugby League World Cup Final, NBA Global Games and the UCI Track Cycling World Cup. These events help to raise the city's global sporting profile, whilst bringing long-term social and economic benefits to Manchester and its residents.

The City's excellent range of accessible sports venues and facilities, combined with its school and community sports development programmes, provide the springboard for Manchester's sporting stars of the future.

A City of Sport

Manchester has a rich sporting heritage, a reputation for attracting national and international events and a passion for sport at community level. It has a sporting infrastructure second to none and a commitment to excellence at all levels. The city has trained champions and played host to record breakers, inspired mass participation and delivered events watched by millions across the globe, spawned one of the worlds biggest football clubs.

Manchester has a record of consistent, high quality delivery from Commonwealth Games to the Uefa Cup Final, the FINA World Swimming Championships to the Paralympic World Cup, Manchester has demonstrated its capacity and its appetite, its creativity and its determination.

The city's enthusiasm continues unchecked. In advance of London 2012, Manchester played host to a number of Olympic teams, including USA Basketball teams, Swim Australia and Paralympic athletes from Thailand and Brazil. Manchester was also the only city in the North West of England to host an Olympic event with qualifying games for the football tournament taking place here.
